The Rising Festival: Mindfulness Workshop with Carolyn Pallon
A Rising Festival Workshop on Mindfulness with Carolyn Pallon, Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
I have always been fascinated by this ‘being human’, about mental health and what enables that real felt sense of wellbeing. I followed this passion by working as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for over 20 years in the NHS. When our Trust offered the chance to be on the receiving end of a mindfulness course I was there like a shot and have never looked back.
I began a daily practice myself and trained to deliver it across our Trust. Helping people be more aware of the stories in their minds, to move towards responding rather than just reacting, and teaching skills that enabled them to bring a more friendly response to their difficulties helped me see keenly, the huge transformative power of mindfulness.
We have over 60,000 thoughts a day, around 95% we have had before, and most are critical (predominately of ourselves). Practising mindfulness enables us to become more aware of that, which as just one step is incredibly helpful.
Practising mindfulness help us to slow down, to shift gear from the constant doing mode into a more present being mode, to ultimately discover a different place to live from; more peaceful, spacious, creative and nourishing. It is ultimately a radical act of sanity, vital self-care in this increasingly challenging, pressured and complex world.
The research behind mindfulness is vast and compelling. I will be sharing more on this as well as teaching some of the basic practices at the Rising Festival on the 10th March.
This workshop is part of the Rising Festival and is included in the day pass for the Festival.
