Mindfulness Taster Session: Reduce the Pressures & Stresses of Life

Thursday, 25 May 2017
19:00 - 21:00
Cambridge, UK

A warm welcome and an invitation to find out more about the benefits and compelling evidence that makes Mindfulness one of the most sought after practices today in the field of wellbeing.

Depression, anxiety and stress are the cause of 13 million lost working days per year in the UK. Mindfulness training is proving to be a vital antidote for addressing this upward trend.

Many high profile companies such as Apple Computer, Google, Yahoo, Astra Zeneca, Procter and Gamble, Starbucks and others, understand the huge potential of this evidence-based, highly researched approach and have Mindfulness programs deeply embedded in their work settings.

This evenings session will offer an opportunity for you to find out more about the benefits & the scientific evidence that makes Mindfulness not just another passing fad, but a highly effective stress reduction program. Clinically robust, as effective as anti-depressants in the treatment of recurrent depression when delivered in the 8 week ‘Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction’ (MBSR) format founded  by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine Emeritus. MBSR is offered by medical centers, hospitals, and health maintenance organisations across the world.

Thousands of studies report that MBSR increases general wellbeing, emotional resilience, and levels of reported happiness. Documenting its benefits in reducing:

* Health-related absenteeism
* Stress
* Anxiety
* Depression
* Exhaustion
* Burn-out

The approach offers an antidote to the busy lives we are often leading, where demands often outstrip personal and emotional resources.

There will also be a chance to practice some mindfulness yourself, to experience the benefits first hand, followed by an opportunity to discuss and explore how it can fit into your everyday life; how the simple, yet powerful practices can very quickly enable you to feel more present, more receptive and  less stressed.

Mindfulness is a radical act of sanity

The evening will be delivered Carolyn Pallon, Clinical Psychologist, Mindfulness and meditation teacher, who has over 20 years’ experience working as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the NHS alongside delivering Mindfulness in the corporate world.  Carolyn has a passion for promoting psychological resilience and wellbeing, for translating compelling and inspiring theory and scientific evidence into good practice and for equipping people to flourish and thrive. She is particularly interested in the neuroscience of mindfulness and how the practice can reawaken innate wisdom, creativity and ultimately encourage natural benevolence and happiness to flow.
