A four week introduction to the core skills as taught in the highly acclaimed ‘Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction’ 8 week course developed by Jon-Kabat Zinn.
Thousands of scientific studies now demonstrate how effective Mindfulness practice can be in alleviating stress, anxiety, depression and a whole range of emotional and physical conditions. An approach so successful it is now recommended as a treatment of choice for recurrent depression in the NHS.
Mindfulness is a form of attention and awareness training that helps people relate more effectively to their experiences. It involves paying attention to thoughts, feelings and body sensations in a way that increases awareness, acceptance and self-compassion to help manage difficult experiences, and create space to make wise choices.

This course is for complete beginners as well as for those who have had some experience of meditation or mindfulness and is taught in a group – in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Over the four weeks you will be introduced to simple, clinically proven skills, aimed at building a mindfulness practice that can be easily applied into everyday life. You will learn how to become more familiar with the workings of your mind and strategies to help you slow down, gain greater self awareness and recognise habitual reactions that do not serve you well – so that you can start to respond to your experiences with more kindness, ease and wisdom.

What will be covered in the four weeks:
Week 1 – 17 October: Introduction, the power of being present and ‘Automatic Pilot’.
Week 2 – 24 October: Exploring non-judgmental curiosity to our experiences; pleasant and unpleasant, and Mindfulness of the breath to manage stress.
Week 3 – 31 October: Dealing with stress, barriers and difficulties in a new way. Moving from reacting to responding – replacing unconscious stress reactions with conscious stress responses.
Week 4 – 7 November: Self-compassion and acting mindfully – how to bring mindfulness into everyday life.
Course dates and timing:
Every Tuesday starting 17th October ending on 7th November, 7pm – 8.15pm
Participants are encouraged to practice at home during the course. Mindfulness is, after all, a practice and this course is designed to help you create healthy habits and practices which can be flowed across into your daily life.
Through a process of taught practice, enquiry and support, this course will encourage a personal practice where you will witness the transforming effect Mindfulness can have.
