Arthur Rank Hospice supports people in Cambridgeshire living with a life-limiting illness and those who need end-of-life care. Our services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. Our aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

We care for people at the Hospice in Cambridge, the day treatment centre in Wisbech and in patient’s own homes through the Arthur Rank Community team. The support provided by our inpatient unit, day therapy services and Hospice at Home is practical, holistic and tailored to the individual. Programmes may include psychological support, physiotherapy, complementary therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitative support, counselling, bereavement and spiritual support.

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity needs to secure £7.45 million every year to deliver our services free of charge to patients and their loved ones. About half of this currently comes from statutory sources with further funds raised through our Bistro, education services, conference facility and hairdressing salon. The remainder is raised thanks to the wider local community who are motivated to ensure that work of the hospice continues: amongst other things they donate to our shops, take part in our events, take on personal challenges, hold their own fundraisers or leave gift in their Will. We are constantly looking for new opportunities to sustain funds, so we can keep providing and developing our vital services long into the future.

I have a clinical background at a senior level in public health nursing, as a university and college lecturer and researcher. So I know how important it is to look after my own wellbeing and so in addition to spending time walking my dogs in Norfolk I do environmental volunteering one day a week. Being outdoors in nature doing something good for the environment is the best form of self care I can experience.

Examples from last year’s teams include (from left top, clockwise): card making and sales by Studio 24; over £1500 raised by Qualcomm from a range of activities including a Halloween fancy dress competition; pumpkin carving and quick by Quy Mill Hotel & Spa; and packs of chocolate made especially by Gourmet Brownie to raise funds for the Hospice.
